From our rustic ambiance to a mouth-watering menu, every aspect of the our steakhouse is infused with the rich heritage of the Texas Hill Country. Let’s take a stroll through history and see how this definitive Texas institution came to be.
Hill Country Beginnings
The Y.O. Ranch itself was established in the mid-19th century by Captain Charles Schreiner, a German immigrant who settled in Texas. He purchased over 30,000 acres of land in the Texas Hill Country and began raising cattle, and soon the ranch grew in size and prominence to become one of the largest and most successful ranches in the state.
Over the years, the ranch changed hands several times, but its legacy lived on. In the 1980s, it was sold to a group of investors with a vision of preserving its history and heritage. They established the Y.O. Ranch Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, conservation and the preservation of Texas history.
As part of its mission, the Y.O. Ranch Foundation opened a historical museum in Kerrville, Texas. The museum showcases artifacts, documents and photographs related to the history of the Y.O. Ranch and Texas Hill Country. It’s a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region and a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Texas history.
