One of the things we’re the most proud of at our Dallas steakhouse is the rich history of hard work that’s behind it! Surprisingly enough, the Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse didn’t begin as a restaurant, it started as a working ranch. Our story is fascinating and we’d like to share it with you.
History Behind Dallas’ Best Steakhouse
The Y.O. Ranch has been family owned for six generations. The love and hard work that has gone into the ranch over the years is evident everywhere you look. Captain Charles Schreiner immigrated to the United States from Alsace-Lorraine in 1852. He drove over 300,00 head of cattle “up the trail” to Dodge City and used the money he made to purchase the Y.O. Ranch from it’s owners. The original owner, Youngs O. Coleman, is where the “Y.O.” comes from. The name was kept and used for our iconic downtown Dallas steakhouse.
Charles Schreiner III introduced wild game to the ranch in the 1950s and stocked it with exotic animals from all over the world. Giraffes, zebras, and emus are just a few of the 60 plus species that call the ranch home. These beautiful creatures roam the ranch’s 40,000 acres of land basking in the Texas sun with the native white tail deer.
