A few of my high school friends, class of 64 and I had a girls day out at the west end a few days ago. We ended up at the Y.O, steakhouse for lunch. It was cloudy and not that hot so we sat out side in the patio. What great fun that was for a bunch of old friends. When the waiter found out we all knew each other from high school, he could not believe we had stayed in contact with each other that long. We were pretty much acting like we did in school and he seemed to get a kick out of it and treated us like royalty. Even the owner came out to say hello and thanked us for picking his restaurant for our little mini reunion.
Sandy, my best friend , suggested we split a buffalo steak. After one round of margaritas I was feeling a little adventurous so I said okay.
Let me tell you that was the best steak I have ever put in my mouth. I was sorry I hadn’t ordered a whole one for myself. We sampled each others food, old friends can do that, and everything was delicious.
They made us feel special and served us wonderful food. Good friends great food and a special day I”ll remember for a long time. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Yelp
“I absolutely love Y.O. Steakhouse! My boyfriend and I eat here pretty frequently and we’ve never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is great and the service is, too. Our favorite menu items are Sal’s Soft Tacos for an appetizer (filled w/ queso and wild boar sausage) and the buffalo filet mignon for an entree.”

Yelp
“One Saturday night I received a call from my friend who was in Deep Ellum saying he was hungry. I picked him up and the goal was to find a place to eat where we could also watch the Cowboys game. We ended up driving towards the West End thinking we’d pick the first place that sounded good and wasn’t crowded. We ended up in the West End. After seeing the crowds at Hoffbrau we walked across the street to YO. I hadn’t planned on spending a fortune on dinner, but it ended up being worth it.
We walked in and went straight to the bar and found two empty seats. No sound on the TV. Not a problem. Just let me watch the game and bring me food. After eyeing the menu for a while I decided on the filet mignon. Medium. When it came out it was cooked perfectly. It tasted wonderful. It was also served with a few green beans and these little squashes that I had never seen before. Good stuff. My friend ordered the prime rib and he said it was also perfect and probably one of the best steaks he has had. I tasted it and it was so good and juicy. We ordered a bottle of wine to start, which I didn’t realize we were getting a mini bottle of red wine. No biggie. The bartender ended up giving me a glass of the house red when we emptied our bottle.
Everyone that we saw or that came to the bar looked like they were having a good time and a good meal as well. Based on the steaks I would come back to this place and definitely to experience the restaurant part and not just the bar area.”

Yelp
“I recently had the most yummy Rib Eye at the YO. It was perfectly cooked very rare on the inside — kind of a Pittsburg! I had great mashed potatos and gravy, which I don’t normally get but the gravy was really good. And Asparagus, perfectly cooked and fresh. Then I had a little pecan pie that was homemade and the best ending. Could not eat the entire steak so I took it home and made a sliced rib eye salad the next day. I often get the Buffallo here and it is terrififc too but This is THE BEST Rib Eye Ihave had in Dallas in a long time. Time for another trip — the patio is nice when not too hot. I have also eaten at the bar here and that can be fun.” – -- Suzanne A. , Dallas, TX
Yelp
“Loved the friendly and proficient service! Awesome meat cuts, however my 2 companions and myself are fish lovers and we LOVED the sea-bass, salmon and tilapia; all delicate and generous servings.
I just moved here from Manhattan, I find the neighborhood awesome and don’t understand why Dallas downtown pseudo-urbanites don’t patronize places like this. The Texas decor is classy and not over done -just like the juicy scrummy Buffalo steak I’ve devoured in 3 previous occasions! I love their green beans and the waiter who suggested this item from menus past (bring’em back chef!)
I hear Banana Pudding is a Texas classic; regardless YO’s BP -and 2 servings of Warres 1963 port- were the perfect closing to my evening. I was looking for the train (subway) back to the Lower East Side (NY) and realized this is home for now. YO thanks for making the transition easier and delectable!
…yo! this one’s on my top yelps for food appreciative downtowners and event organizers!”

Yelp
“Excellent for their wild game entrees. We celebrated Valentine’s here and ordered the buffalo filet mignon with the jalapeno bacon cornbread and the smoked beef/wild boar sausage soft tacos. They give you a 10 ounce buffalo filet mignon steak which is grilled to perfection with a special blend of spices. Other dishes that we really wanted to try included the New Zealand Elk Chops which are topped with a sweet cherry molasses glaze, the Axis Venison Medallions, and the Grilled Quail. They also offer the classic steaks such as the NY Strip, Ribeye, for the less adventurous. Service is extremely friendly, there’s an extensive wine list, and parking is free in the neighboring lot. Definitely worth checking out if you like steakhouses and game meats.”
